Several areas in Delhi were lashed by heavy rains along with hailstorm and thunderstorm on Saturday afternoon, leading to traffic jams in some parts of the national capital.
The meteorological department said the minimum temperature settled a notch above the season’s average at 16.4 degrees Celsius with a cloudy morning in the national capital.
The humidity level at 8.30am was recorded at 88%, it added.
“Very small ( about 5km*25km*8km dimension) but intense convective cloud is located over central parts of Delhi which is likely to cause moderate rain alongwith moderate thunderstorm & hail activity during next 2 hours. It will subside thereafter (sic),” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) tweeted.
The Met office has said the sky will remain cloudy and more showers are likely in the evening.
“The maximum temperature is likely to settle around 27 degrees Celsius,” a weather official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Social media, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, were full of photographs and videos of the rains as users remarked about the untimely downpour. #DelhiRain became one of top trending hashtags on Twitter as well.
“never seen anything like this before,” a user wrote on Twitter and added pictures of the hailstorm.
